The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage on the palm of the hand, surrounded by bones and ligaments. When the median nerve is compressed, the symptoms can cause numbness, tingling, and weakness in the hand and arm.
Carpal tunnel syndrome, which can affect one or both hands, is the leading cause of lost time at work in the United States. When it is detected, preventive measures should be taken to eliminate the pain, restore the function and prevent the problem from worsening.
Treatment
Patients whose complaints do not go away with drug therapy should be treated surgically without further tissue loss. Local anesthesia can be applied and treatment can be performed without requiring patients to stay in the hospital.
